Kasey reviews… Fandom of the Month Club June box!

Hello to whoever is reading this! I’m Kasey as you probably guessed by my site name. I decided to start a reviewing website for all the various things I buy and collect because I love following other people’s blogs and watching unboxing videos so I thought it would be fun to start my own!

A little about me — I’m a recent college grad with a degree in psychology that I plan to do absolutely nothing with! I am super interested in YA fiction and hope to become a YA writer in the future but I would also someday love to try my hand at writing for TV. I’m pretty nerdy and have a strong interest in Disney-related things and toys and all* things nerdy! So things you may see reviewed here include Disney-related merchandise, American Girl stuff, books (probably YA), TV shows, and any subscription boxes I buy! Which brings me to today’s first post.

I will be reviewing the June Fandom of the Month Club box today. If you haven’t heard of this nifty little subscription box, it is a monthly subscription box that costs $13 plus $3.25 shipping and comes with 3-4 pieces of fandom related jewelry. Each month has a specific fandom theme that you don’t know in advance, and past fandoms have included Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Divergent, among others. After watching a few unboxing videos I decided to subscribe for myself and my first box just came in today! Yay!

So let’s take a look first at the awesome box that this subscription comes in!

So first of all I love this box. It has an (obviously) Harry Potter inspired vibe with the owl on the front carrying a package through the mail. Since I can’t actually get my mail delivered via owl this is definitely the next best thing.

Ok, time to open up the box and the first thing I see is…

Ok, I know this is just a little detail but I think it’s really cool. I love that Erin Maynard, the curator of this box, has really gone all out in the details. We haven’t even gotten to the jewelry inside and I’m already super impressed. So I know from unboxing videos that I have seen online that there is a little card that comes inside the box that hints at the theme of the box so let’s open this up and take a look!Untitled

Ok, so this one is not immediately obvious to me. My first thought is something fantasy or medieval, maybe like Merlin or King Arthur or something but I’m not sure. The bag should definitely tell me though. But first I have to get through all this paper.

Ok, definitely not Merlin or King Arthur but another fandom I really like — do you recognize this quote?

It’s from Once Upon a Time! It’s something Rumpelstiltskin says and that’s the Dark One’s knife next to the quote. From what I’ve seen in unboxing videos, the FoTM box always comes with one of these bags and I think they are totally adorable and I would almost pay the entire price of the box just to have a collection of these bags. I’m already super excited to find out what is inside so let’s take a look!

The first thing I pull out is…

A charm bracelet!

This is super adorable and there’s so much going on so let’s take a closer look at all the charms. On the left it looks like we have an arrow, a little bird, a crown, a teacup, a bow and arrow, a fairy, and a wolf:

This I think would be referencing Robin Hood then maybe Regina?, Belle, Robin Hood again?, The fairies, and Red Riding Hood.

In the middle we have a mermaid (for Ariel), a Skull (Peter Pan & Hook), a book (Henry’s Once Upon a Time book that started it all), a buggy (Emma’s car), and a pirate ship (Captain Hook):

And last of all on the right we have a rose (Belle), an apple (Regina & Snow White), and a Tree:

I think that this bracelet is super cute and I love how specific it is to Once Upon a Time and the fairy tale characters on the show. It’s also adjustable which is great because I have really tiny wrists. I don’t own any other charm bracelets, but I definitely can see myself wearing this one.

This bracelet also seems like something that would go for ~$10 on Etsy so I can definitely see that this box is going to be a bargain.

Time to see what’s next in the bag!

And it’s a ring!

Okay this is actually super cute. It’s a double ring and obviously is inspired by Cinderella with the horse and the pumpkin drawn carriage. I’ve been a little nervous about getting a ring in this box because I have really fat fingers but luckily this is one is adjustable!

And here’s a picture of it on my hand:

Love it! And it also doesn’t feel weird or hinder my finger movement the way I thought it would so that’s cool too.

Okay, last but not least is…

A super adorable necklace! For those of you who don’t watch the show, this is a replica of the book that Henry owns at the beginning of the show when nobody in his town can remember their true pasts. It tells the classic fairytale stories we all know and love and is an integral part of the show and one of the most easily recognizable symbols of this show. Also it’s a tiny book necklace and it’s so cool! It comes on a nice long chain that’s adjustable so you can wear it as high or as low as you want. Here’s a closer picture of the book part:

The book is well done. I think it’s made out of clay probably and it doesn’t open but you can see lines on the side to indicate that there are many pages in the book. The back is just a plain brown but you won’t see that anyways when you wear it.

So that’s all for this month’s Fandom of the Month Club. I know I have been waiting excitedly all month for this first box to arrive and I am definitely not disappointed. I know I am already eagerly anticipating next month’s box. For only $16 / month with shipping this box is definitely a great value. Erin has chosen some great fandoms so far and every month there has been some adorable jewelry so I definitely recommend this box if you love fandoms and jewelry!

The website to subscribe is: http://www.fandomofthemonth.com/

July subscriptions are open and you can subscribe and pay for 1, 3, or 6 months at a time which will auto-renew at the end of that time frame unless you cancel. I think the subscription fills up pretty fast because the spots fill up with people who have auto-renewed subscriptions so be sure to sign up soon if you are interested!

Thanks for reading! I think my next post will be related to the new Disney Pixar film Inside Out so stayed tuned for that soon!

  1. Wow, I can’t believe that all of this was only $16! What a cool idea, I look forward to seeing what else you get in the coming months. Wonder if they have ever done a Dr. Who one?!

    • I think the March box was actually Doctor Who! I know that Erin has plans to repeat fandoms though, so there could definitely be another one in the future! I’m already super excited for next month’s box and can’t wait to review it on here when it arrives.
